Celebrate St. Stephen’s Day in Hvar

Night time at the Town Square

September and October are the months of splattering rain and chill winds – so why not get away to an island filled with sunshine bliss? We promise you wouldn’t need an umbrella!

October is actually a fantastic month to visit Hvar. On October 2nd, this harbor town celebrates its patron saint and protector St. Stephen; hence, St. Stephen’s Day. On this day, you can go visit the places that are dedicated to him such as the Town Square and the St. Stephen Cathedral.

The Town Square is said to be one of the most beautiful and largest squares in Croatia. Measuring at 4500 square meters, it is filled with local eateries, shops, and cafés. The town has developed around this square and it is definitely where all the festivities will happen. Don’t forget to take a camera!

You can also visit a grand architecture dedicated to St. Stephen. Said to be the most impressive building in Hvar, the Cathedral of St. Stephen is located on the eastern side of the Town Square. It was built from the 13th -18th century on the site of an early 6th century Christian Church and considered a gem of late Renaissance Dalmatian architecture with impressive interiors and richly decorated facades.
